Dear all,
My windows 2000 professional system kept prompting me
this error message whenever I try to install Oracle 10g on it
"Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Windows NT available for installation
in this staging area"
Please what do I do?

Several things;
1) Make sure you continue to use the installer that is included with the media.
2) You are probably trying to install from a CD or Media intended for Other MS WIN (i.e. windows98) or another platform that is not 2000 professional. Verify the software package you are installing from and that it is intended for Windows 2000 Pro.
3) If you try an install Oracle in the C:\Program Files\... or any path tha contains a space or special characters in it, you with also get an invalid staging error message.
The C:\Program Files\Oracle\... is not a valid Oracle_Home for example. Try: <any_drive_available>:\Oracle\1013
4) If you are attempting a 'Custom' install, please try a 'Typical' install.
If you need further assistance please send me the install log file from C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs
Cheers,
NK

For Oracle Universal Installer "Invalid Staging Area, There are no top level components for null available for install from this staging area" the cause could be The file install.platform in the oraInventory directory is either missing or empty.
To fix it try to go to the oraInventory directory and use an editor to create or change the file
install.platform
The contents of this file for example Sun SPARC Solaris is:
[Platform]
ID=453
For MS Windows platforms the install.platform file is located in the
C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory directory
The contents of this file holds the platform ID of the platform on which the software is/can be installed on.
A entry in install.platform for WinXP Pro will be like :
[Platform]
ID=912
Hope this helps,
NK
