Dear All;

Can anyone tell me how to distribute work in site contains 2 DBA's in a way each one will be responsible for his work & no conflict in responsibilities between them.
I work in this site where we have main DBA & I as DBA Assistant. Our DBA do all the work & give me nothing to do. This gave bad image on me from management.
Please I need your help to give my management suggestion to divide the work between both of us. So by this our site will have 2 main DBA's each is doing his own work.

If there a persons working in companies with other DBA in his section, Please tell me how things is going. How manager give work for each.

Please I need your urgent help

Best Regards

hi,

I want to let you know that as your question is not related to any technical issue i think most of the expert will not like to reply on it.... But i want to tell you few things which are as below... As per your Senario

Just do one thing study your database completely.... & If other dba is doing all job then its best time for you to do R&D,to Explorer many thing on database. And to very honest you should not experiment with the live data on server ... so create test server to do R&D on it. Most of time i believe that if database is working nicely and user are not complaining you dont have much work to do other than day to day backup... company pay to DBA so that in future if any problem arises he or she should be able to solve the problem immediatly. So try to find incoming problem on database.....If company is thinking that you are not doing anything then... why they had given you a job? and if they had not assign you any task then its there problem.... What ever activity you do on database maintain document releted to it so that in case if you leave that job the other DBA who comes at your place can go through it and if you dont leave the job then that document will be helpful to you in your work.

Note:- As database is single and there is 2 DBA then both the DBA is responsible for anything that happend on the database Very Happy.

Just apply your logic if things are working fine then y to change anything on Database.

If you are junior DBA then your senior DBA has to think what job he or she should assign to you, so that Senior DBA jobs load can decrease. (In this senario Junior DBA is answerable to senior DBA)

Remeber One thing CROWS are BLACK everywhere in this world.. Very Happy so try to adjust yourself in your working condition and to get as much knowledge as you can.

You should know what are the work Of DBA in any compnay, and this question is been asked many time in many interview.

I Hope you will be able to put your point in front of management properly ...As this question dont have any ending you can get many different type of reply ...

Note:- There must be good healthy relationship between 2 dba as per your senario ..Smile or things will be worst. Jr. DBA can get better knowledge from there senior DBA ,

And any two DBA can increase their knowledge by co-ordination which will be helpful for both.

Best Wishes
Sunil

Sunil's right:
The first person to ask is your Sr. DBA.

Agreeing with most of what has been said, and without getting into political organizational discussions, one natural technical separation I've seen is:

1. Infrastructure DBA -- Backup and Recovery, Database Network Connectivity, Active Monitoring of Production. Interface between Operating System Hardware Administrator and Development DBA.

2. Development DBA -- Logical and Physical Database Design, SQL and PLSQL Programming, Performance Tuning. Interface between Infrastructure DBA and Application Developers.

Hallow All;

Thank you very much guys for answering me.
Really it was very helpful answers.

I want to clarify one thing, why I'm in this situation.

Our DBA takes twice my salary Cool that's why he became afraid about his job to be taken from him. In the same time our management seems not to care much about this situation that made me afraid to loose my job here.

I think I will never get any help from the DBA. and I'm on my own

Now I'm working as programmer developing inventory system using D2K, That what my management made me do.
In our site we have much job to share:
1. Ordinary DBA tasks.
2. Implementation of Oracle DataGuard as Disaster Recovery solution.
3. Implementation of Oracle Collaboration Suite.
4. Implementation of Oracle Application Server.
5. Implementation of Oracle Financials.
The management gave all to the other DBA who implemented nothing Laughing Mad , cause of daily work pressure.

So, I don't know what will happen next, I'll try to share what I got from you with the management & we will se what will happen.

hi,

Naji Ghanim ... i want to let you know that two smart DBA can make management bow against them if the co-ordination and relationship between them is good ..Very Happy ....
Remember one thing Experience of Your senior DBA is more than you & hope for the best may you get more than him in future in another compnay i.e. when you will have experience equal to him .. at that time you will be senior so r u going to be like your senior DBA ?.... your future is totally depend on your present work... Smile and your relation with other in your future company will depend on the experience that your are getting now...

Note :-[1] Sweetness in your communication is necessary to be good DBA Wink or you will be used like football ... by programmer and management ...Very Happy.
[2] DBA should not have EGO ...but he should be smart and full of knowledge .

Regards
