Hii
Currently i m using Oracle 8i, release 8.1.5.0.0 on Windows NT.
Now I'm willing to upgrade Oracle to 9i and OS to Windows XP.
I want to know ,
1,whether Oracle 9i will work properly on Windows XP.
( If it will not work, i will go for Windows 2000.)
2,How i can upgrade the DB.

Hope some one will help me to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance for spending your time

Jerry..

Hi,

Yes, Oracle 9i is compatible with Windows XP Pro. However, Windows 2000 might be a better choice. You can confirm this yourself by looking at the Installation Guide on the first Install CD:

Quote:

Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Management and Integration top-level components are supported on the following operating systems:

Windows NT with service pack 5 or higher.

Windows NT includes: Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition 4.0, and Windows NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition

Windows 2000 with service pack 1 or higher.

Windows 2000 includes: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter, and Terminal Services

Windows XP Professional

The Oracle9i Database Migration Guide describes the upgrade process in detail. This manual is on the separate Database Documentation CD.

Best regards.

Frank

Hello Frank
thank you for the reply,

I saw that 9i on XP makes iSQL *Plus problem, means i have to use same SQL prompt .But if it was on any other OS, i can use the browser window.
(It is in the case of 9i server , client can use the browser window.)
Is there any way to use browser window for my 9i server in XP.

And for upgration i got some method thro Export /Import.
So i feel i can solve that,I will come back if i face some serious problemn in upgradation.

Thnk u

If you are upgrading anyway, why not go to 10g?
