With AlligatorDBC, multiple data sources can now be integrated "on demand" without the prep time or any interface programming going beyond the scope of the project budget. In the process, the systems are not joined as one static system, but are linked together dynamically. The individual data sources maintain their functionality in the process. AlligatorDBC offers huge advantages in the economic comparison as well as in the timeliness of the analyses.
With conventional methods, it is often more difficult than you think to reduce company-relevant data to a common denominator in order to provide Management with comprehensive analyses. Migration projects must be defined that make all essential data available in a data warehouse. This power warehouse then serves as the data pool for company-wide analyses. In light of the tremendous amount of money it takes to maintain a data pool like this, most projects like this fail a profitability analysis. In very rare cases, a cost-effective alternative is to integrate all the necessary systems into one system using interfaces – regardless of the problem of the timeliness of the data in the power warehouse. Setting up a completely new, company-wide data warehouse can often be too costly.
"Sooner or later, companies that want to continue to exist on the data service market will have to think about reducing their operating costs," claims Manfred Peter, Managing Director of Alligator Company Software. Against this backdrop, the archiving of data warehouse data that is called up less frequently is one of the possible applications for AlligatorDBC. "Our product supports the principle of data lifecycle management, thereby reducing the day-to-day operating costs of a data warehouse without endangering production at the same time," said Peter.
AlligatorDBC integrates multiple data sources together at the request of the user and presents the data as if they were stored in a single database. The query language SQL is completely supported so that there is no need for additional training for the users. The installation of "out-of-the-box" components is non-critical. AlligatorDBC can be used on almost any operating system as a stand-alone server component and can be accessed using standard drivers such as ODBC, JDBC, or OLEDB (Version 1.2). AlligatorDBC supports all the conventional OLAP interfaces that are currently on the market and is ready for use as a "real-time business warehouse."
