We are able to connect to remote unix oracle db from MVS using sqlplus TSO and Batch mode, but get error code 01017 from AM CICS. Do we need to do the step 4 and 5 of the configuration steps ?

: I don't know what Oracle version you are running. If it's 7.3.3, please refer to the section "Step 1.3 Aseemble the Tbale using SRCLIB Member TBLJCLN in the chapter 6 of Oracle for OS/390 Client
: Installation & User's guide and also to the section "Connecting to the Oracle database" in the chapter 10. I hope the information will help. Presently, our AM4CICS is used for local connection.

Are you running Oracle 8.1.7 - see bug 1942395. Problems with connecting to remote Oracle. If you apply the patch you should be o.k.
