Hello,

i have a question. can i use export/ import to migrate a oracle 8 database to a oracle 9 database?

Scenario:
i have a machine (w2k server) running oracle 8.1.0.7 database. the name of the db is "ora8" and i have a new machine (w3k server) running oracle 9.2.0.5 without any database.
now i want to export the whole "ora8" database and import it into the new machine (after the transfer, the old machine will be shut down for ever). does this work ? if yes, what ist the best way.

thanx for your answer.

Mario

Yes you can. For detailed instructions, read chapter 8 (Database Migration Using Export/Import) of the "Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2)" Guide.

Best regards.

It's not required: "Pre-create tablespaces, users, and tables in the target database to improve space usage by changing storage parameters."

However, I would recommend pre-createing at least the tablespaces to ensure optimal file placement for best I/O throughput.

Best regards.
