I am backing up one 33 gig database to disk using RMAN. This backup is then moved to tape after 3 wks.using a different tool. Considering the fact that there is only one database involved and the limited time frame the backups are kept on the disk (under RMAN's control), is it worthwile to have a recovery catalog?
Please advise.
Thanks
Kris

It is upto you.
having a catalog gives you More options.
Not having a catalog wouldnt compromise anything with backup ( except for a few advance options).

If you aren't going to use a recovery catalog, you might want to increase the controlfile keep time to cover the amount of time that your backups are on disk. The default is 7 days.

The parameter is control_file_record_keep_time.
