When I shutdown my DB using 'dbshut', I frequently need to recover one or more datafiles before I can bring it back up, indicating that it was not, in fact, shutdown properly.

The output from 'dbshut' produces looks correct, and it says the DB was shutdown.

Is there a known problem with the following config?

RedHat AS2.1
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
JServer Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
HP DL380 G3

The 'dbshut' script has the following version info:

# $Header: dbshut.sh.pp 30-may-2000.14:31:09 jboyce Exp $ dbshut.sh.pp Copyr (c) 1991 Oracle

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
John
