hi

I am sunil mishra & in interview of IBM for DBA interviewer they asked me question

Question : There are many mandatary parameter in paramete file but there is one parameter which is essential for database other than DB_NAME? please name that parameter.

i was not able to understand what to reply ..ha ha ... can any one reply to my above question

... i only need answer of my question so that i can know my answer was right or wrong.

I agree with smartin.
But why didn't you ask them what it should be? An interview should never be one-way traffic! If they ask you something you don't know (which is almost inevitable), you should ask them what they mean, and what they think should be the answer.
That shows them you are eager to learn too, and maybe you'll get into a discussion in which you can show them why you don't agree with them, or at least show them you're able to think things through.

Yep.

Definitely discuss the question with them. When they tell you what the "right" answer is, start asking them about other parameters and ask why they aren't important. If I'm in an interview, regardless of which side I'm on, I want a dialog, a discussion, which is an amazing way to find out someones oracle knowledge and experience.

Did I miss something or isn't DB_NAME an optional parameter anyway? Laughing

I love interviews where the interviewer spends the whole time trying to show you how much they know about Oracle.

this is a tricky question as he might want to know that whether a person is working in real time ..
but in actual do u have idea that id init.ora file lost then we can start up database as we dont know about DB_NAME...
