Hi
Is there any parameter setting or any command to set the size of the ARCHIVED LOG FILE (not redolog files). My redolog file size is 50m and i need my archived file (.arc) size as 20m. Is there any possibility to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Why would you want to? An archive log file is a redo log file, just one that is "old" and not available to be overwritten.

If you want your archivelog to be less than your redo log file. Then you have to switch the logfile in regular interval. One way is to use archive_lag_target. Suppose your system is generating 1mb/min then if you want your archive log to be 20mb then set the archive_lag_target=1200 (i.e 20*60 ).

hi,
The answer given by sateesh babu and kumar_dba is to the point ... and correct ....but if you are taking regular correct hot backup...then after taking backup delete old archive file ... coz archive file are used for recovery purpose when log are not applied through redo logs and once you have correct backup then no need of archive as u have current backup and other current information u can get there in redolog itself ...
Note :- Don't delete those archive file which was generated after taking hotback...delete only those archive which was generated before you had taken hotback backup of database.
