I tried to install Oracle 8i on my Windows XP Pentium 4 PC but could not, even after trying some tips I saw in this forum.

Can I use Windows XP to connect to my Oracle database which is on a Windows 2000 Server PC by just installing the client software?

Or is Windows XP completely incompatible with Oracle 8i?

Thanks,
Sal

You need to have Windows XP professional edition to be able to install oracle 8i along with the database in it ..
else you need Oracle 8i lite version to be able to install a desktop version of Oracle..

and yes ... as long as your XP and win2000 server machines are in a network ..you should be able to connect to DB using Client installed @ XP machine ..
