Hi,
I am running Windows 2000 Server with Oracle 8i (Oracle 8 release 3). Everything is on one PC as I am just trying to learn Oracle and get things to work. I installed the Oracle Enterprise Edition.
I can do a manual setup of the node in Enterprise Manager. However, when I try to do an automatic node discovery, it gives me the following error:
"Error while removing C:\oracle\ora81\sysman\temp\vdg\mypc.domain.com.services.ora". It is error VNI-4026. Also, I did a "lsnrctl dbsnmp_status" command and received that "The db subagent is not started".
Everything looks fine as far as the tnsnames.ora, listener.ora and sqlnet.ora files. I can also do a "tnsping" on the 2 databases I created and that works. In Windows Services, the Intelligent Agent, Management Server, Data Gatherer, TNSListener, and my two database instances are running. One of the databases holds the repository.
The sqlplus and svrmgrl (server manager) command line tools also work. I am not getting a TNS adapter error or anything like that, and I can connect to the databases using those tools.
I have Administrator rights to my local machine Oracle is on and the network we have. Also, I am in the ORA_DBA and ORA_SID_DBA (for both databases) groups.
Thanks for the help,
Sal

I did a net start command; also looked at the Services list and found I have the following Intelligent Agent:
OracleOraHome81Agent.
There are no other agents.
This is the default one created for me, and I did not create any special agent.
What command can I use to see if the management server is communicating correctly with the Intelligent Agent?
Also, I believe it is OK, but in my "Log On As" in the Services List I have Log on as "LocalSystem" instead of my user account (default for all Windows Services). I believe this is OK, as I was given administrator rights for my local PC and the network. When I changed it to "Log On As" my <user_account_name>, it did not help or solve the problem.
Thank you for your response,
Sal
