hi there,

just want to install oracle on solaris, but...
if i run "runInstaller" following message appears

The Java RunTime Environment was not found at bin/jre. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher and try again.
: No such file or directory

BUT, i've allready installed j2re-1_4_2_05-solaris-sparc.sh

Any idea whats wrong?

Is it possible that i have to change the JRE_LOCATION in oraparam.ini, to point to newer jre ?

thnx

sparc

You might be right, I've come across a similar issue once.

bash-2.03# more oraparam.ini
[Oracle]
DISTRIBUTION=TRUE
SOURCE=../stage/products.jar
JRE_LOCATION=../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8.12.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/
jre
OUI_LOCATION=../stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/2.0.1.4.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded

HLP_LOCATION=
EWT_LOCATION=
DEFAULT_HOME_LOCATION=
NLS_ENABLED=TRUE
NO_BROWSE=/net
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-mx48m

[IMAGES]
FILE1=images/o9i_1.gif
FILE2=images/o9i_2.gif
FILE3=images/o9i_3.gif
FILE4=images/o9i_4.gif
FILE5=images/o9i_5.gif
FILE6=images/o9i_6.gif
FILE7=images/o9i_7.gif
FILE8=images/o9i_8.gif

the location of JRE and OUI are ok , but there is no
DEFAULT_HOME_LOCATION ???

it should be set, shouldn't ?

but what cause this JRE error message ?

From what directory are you invoking the install. I've noticed that all paths mentioned are relative paths.

Perhaps that's your problem...

the folder i run "runInstall" is the base_folder named DISK1
so the path is .../DISK1/stage/Components/....

that's ok (i allready checked)

thnx MHE for fast replay

but there must be another misstake
anyone an idea ?

Sorry, I wouldn't know what else could cause the problem...
Have you tried setting the JRE_LOCATION to the new JRE? It's a long shot but might be working...if not, I give in Sad.

What version of Oracle are you trying to install? Perhaps MetaLink can provide a solution.
