Hello,

I have a 8.1.7.-db on an w2000-server.
The redos have a size of 1 mb. This is too small.
In the prime-time there are over 10 redo-switches and in the other times about 5.
Now I have the plan to oversize them (e.g. 100 mb) and execute an 'alter system switch logfile' 2 or 3 times per hour.
Can anybody comment this idea? Make this sense or do I overlook anythig?

I want to achive the redo-logs every 20 minutes like oracle recommends.
Without this "trick" I have either too much log switches (and so a lot to write for the db) or too less (and so I am not able to recover exactly!) ; depending on the size of the redo-logs.

I beleive you are on the right track.
Only in 9i oracle has introduced the parameter
ARCHIVE_LAG_TARGET
to help this.
