I have a Windows XP Machine and i try to install oracle 8.1.7 on it but everytime i try to start setup it does not do anything, anyone who's sees this happens before?, any help will be appreciated.

Well thanks Nina, i actually have windows XP professional on my computer but i found that the solution is as follows:
copy the entire CD on the local machine and made the following change:
Look for the files symcjit.dll and rename them to symcjit.old Run the installation from the hard drive.
In that way the installation proceeds without any issues.

You are out of luck. Oracle 8i is no longer available, so if you desperately need it, you'll have to contact Oracle. The same goes for the 9i version. The lowest version available is 10gR2.
Also, I don't think that 8.1.7 was certified with Windows 2003.
