Hi,

Can anybody show me in steps how to create a File DSN using Windows Administrator Tools .. I need it badly..

I'm using:

1. Win2000 Pro. as Server platform.

2. Sun ONE Web Server 6.1 as web server.

3. Oracle8i Databaase (on the same machine as the Server).

4. I'm connecting to the scott/tiger user.

Thanx in advance..

Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator
[[ Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC) ]]
Click on the tab page labeled "File DSN"
Click on the button labeled "Add"
Select the Oracle driver, and press the button marked "Finish"
Type in a name for the file DSN - the admin tool will add '.dsn' on the end. You might want to use the button labeled 'BROWSE' so that you know where the file is stored.
Click on the button marked 'Next'.
Click on the button marked 'Finish'.
Then we move on to the Oracle ODBC specific features.
Enter the tns service name, and set any options you like - I dont ususally bother with username and password since I specify these when connecting.
Click OK, and exit the ODBC Administrator

I have absolutely no idea how to use a file dsn - I always use system dsns, but I guess you asked for a reason.

Hope this helps.
