I am getting ORA-01653 error mesage while trying
to load data in one of the tables. The error
Message is
unable to extend table "ORADBA.SALE_TABLE by
512 in
tablespace DATA_TS".
I checked up in DBA_FREE_SPACE and it says
that alomst 300 MB space is free in DATA_TS. The
next extent size of the table being populted is just
4M. What could be causing this problem ?

So far I know an extent can not be fragmented. So if the biggest framgent of this 300MB of free space is smaller then 4MB it will not be able to create a new extent of 4MB.
You can use the command "ALTER TABLESPACE tablespace_name COALESCE" to coalesces all contiguous free extents into larger contiguous extents.
