Firstly is this possible, and secondly how?

I am new to reports and am just mastering the basics but have been asked to build a report based on a parameter that is defined in a small VB programme. The parameter is the second line of an .ini file and so could be picked up by anything (we use vb). I just need some general pointers on where to start.
