I am new to the world of Oracle coming from a SQL server background.

I have been using free TOAD, until it again recently expired on me.

I went to the download section, to find that free TOAD does not seem to exist.

Upshot is that I downloaded TOAD pro(trial version)

This version will expire within 30 days.

Is there a free version of TOAD still available ?
What do people think of TOAD ? Are there any other tools ?

It still is available. The thing is that you are required to upgrade to the latest version every 60 days (unless you register).

What i can also suggest you is check for

PL/SLQ Developper : http://www.allroundautomations.com/plsqldev.html
almost same functionnality than Toad and cost less if i remember correctly

SQL Developper: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
This tool is provide by Oracle and is free. It have less functionnality than Toad and Pl/SQL Developper but for basic use it can do the job.
