Hi,
When u need to use value on form's item like text box, immage box etc, u need to use ':' sign left of that text or immage item.

eg.
select stud_id, name into :student.stud_id, :student.name from student_info where stud_id=:search.stud_id;

In SQL Statement generally used the : with the bind variables when assigning the values to form items in INTO clause
or u used the : bind variables in Where condition
