connecting Developer 2000 to Oracle 8i [message #77969]

i've managed to install Developer 2000 and Oracle 8i, but when prompted to connect to the database in Developer, it says there's no interface. Oracle works fine, but i can' t log onto the same database in Developer, any suggestions? they seem to be two totally different applications even though i'm using the same username/password/host string
