I know this is strange but I am volunteering at a place where they have an application that uses an Oracle database. They have a lot of stuff on the server and I am trying to locate a particular database. What file extension would the Oracle database data file have. Such as MS Access has .mdb.

Thanks for your help and understanding,

Hi,

Oracle data files normally have '*.dbf' extensions. However, it entirely depends on the site's standards and the DBA that created them.

Best regards.

as frank said, it can be anything and it can be anywhere.
My datafiles never have an extension.
only find out the Physical OS files that are attached to a database is to login to the database and query the dictionary.
