When I tried to log in to Oracle ,I got the message:
Error:ORA-01034 : Oracle not available.
Last time when I logged in ,I happened to delete control01.ctl file. I would like to know whether this is the reason why I get the error message.
Please help me with some advice how to meet this problem.
Has the Personal oracle 8i in my system got corrupted?

Look on your alert log to see the details. You should have more than one control file and usually they will be on different disks. Search for control*.ctl on all the disks. Copy one of the other good ones (it should be timestamped with the time the database last worked)to the location where control01.ctl was and then try to restart the database.
