During a online backup , does the tablespaces or datafiles are ever taken offline ? How does a online backup maintain consistency when the database is busy?
Thanks.

If you do online backup manually, oracle will write modifications to online redologs while tablespaces are taken to BACKUP MODE. Everytime a redolog fills, oracle will archive that online redolog.
If you do online backups with RMAN, tablespaces are not taken to BACKUP MODE and there is no need to archive redologs.
If you plan to use RMAN, you can try RMV Viewer from www.otools.com.ar
Best regards.
