I have a dmp file created using Oracle 8.1.7. I want to import it into my machine which has Oracle 8.1.6 server.

When I try to import, I get the following error:

Export file created by EXPORT:V08.01.07 via conventional path

Warning: the objects were exported by CO, not by you

import done in WE8ISO8859P1 character set and WE8ISO8859P1 NCHAR character set
IMP-00069: Could not convert to environment national character set's handle
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

I understand that this is due to incompatability between export done in 8.1.7 and import into 8.1.6. One solution,(please correct me if I am wrong) is to export once again using 8.1.6 utility and then try and import it into my machine which has 8.1.6. Is this the only solution or is there an alternative which will help me avoid exporting once again ?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanx in advance,
Suman

yes.
always use a lower version of EXP ( in your case 816) against a higher version of database (817) and
use the same lower version of IMP to import into the database.
