How do I use the imp command when restoring a .dmp file from a different server. In other words, what format do I use for "file=". Thanks.

You should ftp the export dump file from the source machine to the destination machine to a local directory and specify that filename with full path in the "FILE=" parameter during import.

Hope it's clear.

to avoid the hazzle of doing FTP and maitain compatibilities
1. alwyas use a lower version of export / import agains
   a higher version.
2. establish a tns connection from your
target dadtabase to your source database.
your target database servers exp to do the export.
dmp file is created somehwere local in the target machine.
now use target database server's imp to do the import into target database.
3. ELSE do the ftp transfer as Anand mentioned
