I have a windows 2000 PC with 2 database instances. Sometimes oracle DBA studio seems to lock and cannot start either of the instances. I seem to be able to get round this problem by using svrmgl from the dos command prompt, but this only seems to point to one of the instances. I have tried to set the oracle SID etc using the set command but it makes no difference. How do i point server manager at a particular instance on windows ??

did you try the following

set ORACLE_SID=dbname
sqlplus sys/password as sysdba
select * from v$database;

startup force
