Hello Friends:
I have installed oracle8i without any database. Later on I created an instance with oradim80 pointing to initdtc.ora stored in d:orantdatabase folder.
I also made appropriate changes in listener.ora,tnsnames.ora and initdtc.ora each having the information about the instance,protocol and machine name. When I try to connect, I get ORA-01034 ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE ERROR.
Can anybody guide me how to solve this as soon as possible.

For this just start the database again from command prompt

c:>svrmgrl
svrmgrl>connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba

svrmgrl>shutdown immediate;

svrmgrl>startup;
