Hi.
I have installed Oracle9i client on my laptop, alongwith OEM. I have a machine on my network which I am using as a database server machine.
I choose to run it as stand alone.
Now when I run OEM, I get the following message:

Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file
oracle.net.config.ServiceAliasException: 10

I click ok, and OEM asks me to "Add Databases to Tree".
I tell it to use my local tnsnames.ora file which contains the correct entries for all the instances running on the server. But nothing happens.

What is the problem here?

Thank you.

Shakeel.

I have had a similar issue where Top Sessions will not work correctly, even though I can see a database on the OEM tree. There was an issue with my tnsnames.ora file. The answer in my case, was to place a "space" before every entry in the file. Yes, lame but it worked for me.

keep only required entries in tnsnames.ora. This worked for me.

Please retain only SID for which you want to correct and it works.

Hello,

I solved the problem after I found out, that there was
white space previous to one entry, e.g.
___DEMOIMMO =
(DESCRIPTION =
instead of

DEMOIMMO =
(DESCRIPTION =

after a listener-restart, everything woked out fine.

Hello every1.

Below was the error that had been a pain in my neck for quite some time. Mad

"Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file
oracle.net.config.ServicesAliasException: 10"

This error appears whenever I try to connect to remote databases (9.2.0.6) using OEM Stand Alone (9.2.0.1)

Finally I stopped the listener on my Workstation (because my workstation has couple of play-databases).

Moved all the ".ora" files from ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/ directory to some bkp directory.

Recreated the Listener.ora and Tnsnames.ora using Net Configuration Assistant.

And viola!!! It worked. Cool
