the error occurs, when I try to connect to an Ora 7.3.4 DB with an Ora8 Client.
Connecting to the Ora7 DB with an Ora7 Client works well, also the connecting to an Ora8 DB with the Ora8 Client.

Iīve checked the tnsnames on client side and the listener on the network DB Host.
I think, the tnsnames is okay, cause stopping the listener on DB Host, my client says "no listener" and tnsping says also connection is okay.
I assume, the listener on my Ora7 DB host, donīt "understand" the message from my Ora8 Client tnsnames.
Whatīs the trick to connect to an Ora7DB with an Ora8 Client ?

Tnx

Hi, guy,

With Oracle 8.1.7 SQL*net connect to Oracle 7.3.4,
I encountered the same thing.

The tnsnames.ora had been checked, and it is OK.

The problem solved yet?

I think you may right, the ora8i is not compatable with Ora734's listener.

Further news, please drop me lines.

Thanks.

This is awful late, but I changed where it said SERVICE_NAME in the tnsnames.ora to SID and it worked.

That did the trick Tammy. It is strange that it made the connection at one time but it is working now and I am pleased. thanks!
