here test.world will connect to the server named 'DBSERVER'. This server is available in the same building and is connected thru LAN. However there is one server available at Jammu, and its ip address is different. so at the host name I have given the ip address of that server. and i created a connecting string as 'SALAL'. But even while configuring, when i test this connection, it says anable to connect

'ERROR:
ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination'

some error with networks only...i beleive.
can you independently ping those machines?
or telnet?
