I can't connect with sqlplus. I tried create a new section in tnsnames.ora with service_name and host and connect : sqlplus username/passwd@service_name but it isn't work. The error message is : ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name.

SIR,

ORACLE USING FOLLOWING FILES

1.PARAMETER FILE
2.CONTROL FILE
3.DATA FILE
4.LOG FILE(REDO LOG FILE,ARCHIVE LOG FILE)

THESE FILES ARE NECESSARY TO RUN A DATABASE

1.PARAMETER FILE
THIS IS THE FIRST FILE WHICH IS READ BY THE ORACLE DURING STARTUP.USING THE PARAMETERS IN THE FILE,IT WILL CREATE THE SGA FOR THE DATABASE.I.E WE HAVE TO SPECIFY THE SIZE OF THE SGA IN THE PARAMETER FILE.THAT FILE ALSO CONTAINS LOCATION OF THE CONTROL FILE

2.CONTROL FILE:
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FILE FOR ANY DATABASE.IT CONTAINS WHOLE STRUCTURE OF THE DATABASE LIKE NO OF DATAFILES,NO OF LOGFILES AND THEIR LOCATIONS AND DETAILS OF THE TABLESPACES,ROLLBACK SEGMENTS ETC.

3.DATAFILE:
ACTUALLY YOUR TABLES ARE STORED IN THIS FILE

4.LOG FILE:
THERE ARE TWO FILE
1.REDO LOG FILE
2.ARCHIVE LOG FILE

DURING ANY THNG HAPPENED IN THE DATABASE,THAT EVENT IS MARKED IN THE REDO LOG FILE.IT IS VERY USEFUL FOR THE HOT BACKUP PROCESS

IF YOU ARE GOING FOR THE HOT BACKUP,THEN YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING FILE

1.PARAMETER FILE
2.CONTROL FILE ( AND ALSO GET ONE TRACE COPY I.E COMMAND TO CREATE THAT CONTROL FILE)
3.DATA FILE
4.ARCHIVE LOG FILE

ANY PROBLEM MAIL TO ME
