Hi I found this from http://dbasupport.com/oracle/faq/Detailed/166.shtm

Open the sqlnet.ora and look for statements like

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)
sqlnet.crypto_seed = "some text"

and comment out these lines using a "#" sign.

In the TNSNAMES.ORA file, change the name from "servicename.domain" to "servicename" and rename sqlnet.ora (This file is not required. It worked for me!

Thanks for the tip! Worked first time when i tried to create a db instance after I commented out the:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)

funciono perfecto con
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)

antes figuraba

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (nts)

y no andaba

Hi All,

The below statements worked for me.

Oracle 8.1.6 (Oracle8i) Download install.

I kept getting ORA-12638 on Enterprise install during database creation. (And any database creation or logon attemp.)

I Commented line:
"SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)"

And all now works.

I am installing the Oracle 8.1.6.0 on my windows 2000 server. It installs all oracle component Oracle succesfully. But when it tries to
create the database. I get a error ORA-12638 Credential retrieval failed. I have installed Oracle multiple times but i am facing this problem first time. Pleae give solution for that.
