running Oracle 8.1.7.4 on an aix Operating System.
Table creation updates etc running OK.
TABLE DROPS are SLOW, 30000 row table takes 6 secs
to drop.
Any reason for this?

Hi,
The solution is to migrate to LOCALLY MANAGED tablespaces.
If you cannot, and require a workaround, see Metalink Note: 68836.1 - How To Efficiently Drop A Table With Many Extents.
