After a cold backup, can all archived logs be removed from the system or copied to tape? I will be implementing RMAN for online backups and am not clear on whether RMAN will look for these logs when it starts.

If you intend to use RMAN hotbackup, archive logs are very important.
So archive logs should be deleted only after the RMAN backup is done.
