Hi Experts,

I am installing Oracle 9i release 2 on windows xp machine. The installation is successful but when it goes for starter database it fails giving me an error of TNSLISTENER.EXE.

I have done the installation of software only which was successful. But, when I tried to create a database from DBCA again the same error. In the service control panel the Tnslistener service is not started and when i start it, it gets started and after sometime again windows give me an error of .exe.

I dont understand where is the problem.I have tired 3 to 4 times.

can anybody help me on this why TNSLISTENER.EXE is failing.

Any help is appreciated.

Milind.

Always post the complete error message.
Else it would be very hard to guess.
Look in the logfiles for more detailed errors...

Hi Mahesh,

Sorry, But i am not getting any oracle error i am getting error of windows.

The error is like this:-
TNSLSNR.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close.

When the error cam i started the debugger in order to find the exact error and i got:-
Unhandled exception at 0x61915732 in TNSLSNR.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000578.

Can you give me some idea about this. I checked the logfiles and found nothing related to TNSLISTENER.EXE.

Pls. help.

Milind

By any chance, would this machine be your perosonal one?
I mean, one with your own firewalls/ download or accleration managers etc?
If so try USE_SHARED_SOCKET = TRUE registry setting . GOOGLE the same for more information.

have you tried to start the Listener manually?
goto command prompt.
type
C:lsnrctl start

look for listener.log for more information.

Hi Mahesh,

Thanks for your reply.
I have tried with lsnrctl utility. It works fine at the first login after that the same error.

I observed one more thing when TNSLISTENER.EXE fails the machine becomes very slow and in the Task manager I saw that CPU usage is 100 %. Oracle.exe is using the maximum CPU and increasing. When I killed oracle.exe in processes the CPU usage came down to 2 to 5%. Why Oracle.exe is using so much CPU and is there any connection with TNSLISTENER.exe.

Pls. reply.

Milind.
