On a Sun Solaris box intended for Oracle databases, what user or login do you folks assign to run X server? The folks here at my company is using 'oracle' to log in Xserver, so when I do 'ps -fe | grep oracle', it shows all the sshd, xterm, dtwm, vi, netscape along with the normal Oracle database processes. I see this as an unhealthy thing and would like to change. How do you folks handle this?
Thanks in advance,
cubbie

Hi,
I do not normally use the XServer on database machines myself, but rather pull the GUIs to my desktop machine to off-load the overhead from the DB Server. Nevertheless, it might be more convenient to run the XServer on the DB servers to provide a productive interface for GUI-type DBAs. On the other hand, if you have a good network, one can easily pull these GUIs (export DISPLAY) to a local XServer on your desktop.
Best regards.
Frank
