Hi,
Is there a way to cancel the oracle shutdown once the shutdown normal command is given?

Someone by mistake gave the 'shutdown' command in svrmgrl (oracle 8.1.7). Now since there are many users connected, the database did not go down. Is there any way to cancel this shutdown, we want to avoid bouncing the database if possible.

An early reply is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately you cannot cancel a shutdown. Best would be to start a new session, do a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or ABORT, and STARTUP as soon as possible to minimize downtime.

Best regards.

And what about running STARTUP FORCE ?
Didn't it cancel active shutdown process?

STARTUP FORCE will essentially do a shutdown ABORT and restart the database.
