Sir,
The present organization has installed oracle9iAS and the server contains 3 major databases. Can you differentiate Application Server and Database Server in managing and installing procedures?
Thanks
Amudan.

9iAS is just a fancy "web server" it is maily used to connect web browsers to the database using different technologies like PL/SQL gateway, Java, Forms, Reports etc. The database server is the database itself. 9iAS has it's own small dedicated oracle database for it's own use.

Hi.
Oracle database server is an Oracle software that will let you create and manage database.
Oracle9iAS is another kind of software, it is a web server.
They are usualy installed on differnt machines.
If installed on same machines, they are installed on separate oracle_home, because they are different kind of software.
Best luck.
