problems in installing oracle 8i [message #62610]

i am having problems installing oracle 8i (release 8.1.5) on my XP system, when the universal installer starts i get the following error message

"Invalid staging area. There are no top level
components for windows NT available for install
from this staging area"

any ideas pleaseb help?

Make sure u have enough virtual memory allocated ( atleast 3 times RAM)

Sounds like you have XP Home edition, which is not certified by Oracle. Oracle ONLY certify on Professional.

Check your system requirements before installing Oracle 8.1.5. You can install the 8.1.7 Client only on XP Professional. The first DB server certified is 9i (Release 1).

to who ever it may concern

hi i am syed sameer i installed oracle 8i in interprise edition in windows xp professional, it did get starting oracle,the error it is providing is oracle not found ,

pls give me some sugession how to rectify that problem
