I haven't been able to get an answer from Oracle Tech support yet, so I thought I'd try you guys. I have a server currently running Oracle 8.1.7 Standard Edition on AIX 4.3.3. On Monday my system administrator and a consultant will start upgrading to AIX 5.2 on this server. I will follow in a few weeks to upgrade from Oracle 8.1.7 to Oracle 9.2.0.4. We are currently running in 32-bit mode. Someone told me that I must run AIX 5.2 in 64-bit mode in order to run Oracle 9.2.0.4 Standard Edition because Oracle 9.2.0.4 requires 64-bit. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I need to let my sys admin and the consultant know first thing Monday and haven't heard back from tech support yet. Thanks.

Hi Linda,
According to Metalink Certify:
"32-bit/64-bit Information:
- Starting with Oracle9i, the Server is always in 64-bit mode and ships with both a 32-bit and 64-bit Client Libraries.
- If the Server product is 64-bit then 64-bit hardware (processors) is required."
Best regards.

Oracle 9i is 64-bit for AIX5L series. The install does include 32-bit libs for other apps.
$ORACLE_HOME/lib (is 64-bit libs)
$ORACLE_HOME/lib32 (is 32-bit libs)
Be carefule on which one to access first depending on your app. Meaning, if your app is 32-bit, then access 32 bit libs first, else you may have problems.
My env is
Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 EE 64-bit
AIX 5.1 ML04
