hi friends
i am working on solaris 5.9 and oracle 8i.WE have 512 mb ram.Now had
allocated sga to 128 mb.This is the only one database in the server (its a old server)>What's the maximum that i can allocate to this db.Shall i allocate around 200mb to SGA

hi..
first sga limit is not depend upon ram but it will effect the performance of your server..

if your ram size is 128mb and you have design total sga size=200mb.then more swapping will occur to satisfy the requriment ..so your server will perform poor. normally choose your sga size less than your ram size..

hi freind

My ram size is 512 not 128 so shall i increase the current sga max size (128) to 200 or any problems

is any other application is running on ur server.???

if only oracle is running on ur server then u can set ur sga size to 200mb.

Hi Shyam

the practive is to allocate about 50% of the RAM to the SGA if you do not have any other application hosted on the machine and the instances hosted are 1 .
so try with a 256MB SGA .
