There is a query that is using the rule based optimizer and gives this error ora-4031 ( cannot allocate memory and solution is"shared pool size had to be increased" ). Using oracle 8i.

If the same query is run withchoose based optimizer, it runs fine. It does not give any error.

Does this mean that the rule based optimizer takes more shared pool memory than the query that uses choose based optimizer ? Isthere any referenceto this in the documentation or any web links ?

Appreciate any help on this.

thanks
