while performing oracle8i hot backup,can i backup the control file before backing up the datafiles,archived log files etc., If not,kindly let me know the drawbacks.

alter database backup control file to trace ;
this is the way to backup your control file.
Best practice is to backup your controlfile with hot backup.

hi,
thanx for the inputs..but my real concern is,during hot backup,is it advisable to backup the control file as the first step...before backing up the data files..
