HI.. All

I have already installed Oracle 9i on XP machine and I want to install Oracle 8i also on the same machine. What precautions should i keep in mind at the time of installation.

After installation when i go to SQL> prompt through run, then which version of Oracle it take.

set your oracle_home
also install it in separate dir

As posted separate Oracle home is a MUST.

Also use the Oracle Universal Installer from 9i for the 8i installation.

Once you create 8i db instance, you have to specify every time you want to connect via SQL*PLus:

c:> set oracle_sid=9i-instnace

or

c:> set oracle_sid=8i-instance
