What is meant by "Oracle Named Server"? Does this have anything to do with the tnsnames.ora file?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
No, Named Server is an another approach to identify oracle server. TNSnames.ora & Oracle Named Server are two different approaches and there is no link between them.
Basically Oracle Name Server is used to store the tns entries in a central location instead of distributing it at all of the client machines using TNSnames.ora file.

Daljit,
Can you tell me where I go to get more information to set up Oracle Name Server. I am a windows 2k shop so I am guessing we need to set the Oracle_Home and PATH. I've searched Name Server and keep coming up empty.
Thank you for your expertise.

Hi,
Y u want to switch on to oracle name server? In the coming releases of oracle, name server will be outdated.
But if you really want to centralize ur TNS addresses so instead of configuring oracle name server go for LDAP servers.
For more info refer oracle doc.
