Hello:
We are planning to migrate our 64-bit Oracle Databases (currently on Solaris 8 64-bit) to Red Hat Linux on IBM Platform (32-bit) for cost cutting. Which means the database will be downgraded from 64-bit to 32-bit both from the Oracle and OS Perspective.
Is there a possiblity that this will have any impact on the databases /performance/configuration. Are there possibilities of any serious known problems with such a migration (Specially because of Solaris - Linux and 64-32 bit).
Is it even advisable?
If it is not , we are planning to keep them on solaris as is.
Thanks

Moreover, our current database version is 9.2.0.4.0 (64-bit) on solaris 5.8 (64-bit). However I see Oracle 9i Linux version only upto 9.2.0.1.0. What will happen during the migration? Migrating a database from 9.2.0.4.0 to 9.2.0.1.0 across platforms?????

Hi,
The migration shouldn't be a problem, as you will have to export the Solaris database and re-import it on Linux. Nevertheless, I cannot comment of the performance, you will have to benchmark the application on the Linux platform to see if performance will be acceptable.
Best regards.

Hi,
You can also upgrade the Linux box to 9.2.0.4 - download the latest patch-set from Metalink (or somebody from Oracle to download it for you) and apply it.
Best regards.

Hi ,
If you are planning to do an export and import , make sure that you are using a vresion of EXP utility which is either equals or lower than the version of your target Datbase. Otherwise the import will not be possible.
