Hello,

I have 2 questions about database recovery:

1- Trying to create a recovery job using Oracle8.1.7 storage manager. I got the following error message:

"The database is in 'No archive Mode' and 'Open'. The database must be mounted to perform a recovery".

Does it mean that my repository data should reside on another database, because when I shutdown the instance, I loose the Storage Manager connection ? Or may be it 's just stupid to do a recovery through Storage Manager...

2- Trying to backup my oracle 8.1.7 database using Storage manager and going through all available options.

First I had to create a backup configuration, choosing the backup set option. Then I’ve backed up my database, everything worked fine.

As a second step, I’ve selected the image copy option.

When configuring my backup job, this new backup configuration does'nt appear on the list and I still have only the default one which has the backup set option.

Please help !

Hi Nadia.
I cant remember what Storage Manager is.
What i can tell you, is that is true the DB you want to recover mus be mounted but no opened, and it is also possible you will need to setup your DB to be in archivelog mode. So, it will be mandatory for you to install Storage Manager repository in separate database form the one you want to backup and recover.

Hope this helps...
Regards.
