When I look at data in an Oracle 9i database table using the Enterprise console, the $ and £ show up for Dollar and Pounds but the € shows up as the letter e in the table. Am I missing something simple?

If the Enterprise console is on windows, try setting NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 in your registry and if in Unix,
try american_america.WE8ISO8859P1
