Hi,

My current environmnet is 8.1.6. I have installed Oacle 8.1.7 into a separate home. Before start of this installation, I have changed the .profile to refer to the new home. Installation completed successfully.

For upgrade

1.logged in as oracle and changed the .profile settings back to 8.1.6

2.Changed my 8.1.6 initOra file job_queue_process to 0.

3. Stop 8.1.6 database and and start again.

4. export new oracle_home, path, SID

5. started odma

6. Selected the option of backup already taken

7. started upgrade

At this point I get Ora-12547 error . Am I missing any step here? When doing upgrade what should be the ORACLE_HOME? I have to use 8.1.7 's odma or 8.1.6's odma?

Please advice me at the earliest.

Thanks, Ramam

Look for 'Note:133920.1' in Metalink for a manual upgrade. Though I have heard of ODMA, never used it, so cannot comment there.

I have always done manual upgrade.I have gone from

8.1.6 -> 8.1.7 -> 9.2.0, all manual upgrades.

Cheers.
